Initial notification is that a farmer was found dead under an overturned ATV quad bike.
Key Safety Messages:
Drivers of sit-astride ATVs should wear an appropriate helmet.
Drivers should be properly and formally trained.
The long seat on sit-astride ATVs is to enable “active riding”. It is not for carrying passengers.
All ATVs should be well maintained and routinely checked (especially tyre pressures, brakes and throttle).
Loads carried should not exceed the recommended weight and should be properly secured.
Routes should be properly planned, and if possible, new routes are walked, and hazards are identified, before the route is ridden
Under 16s are prohibited from using most adult sized machines.
The appropriate gear ratio / 2WD / 4WD should be selected for the terrain being driven.
ATVs should be driven appropriately according to the ground conditions.
